BRASILIA, Dec 5 (Reuters) - Brazil's military is reinforcing its northern border due to rising tensions between its neighbors Venezuela and Guyana over Venezuela's claim to the Esequibo region, the Ministry of Defense said on Tuesday. Venezuela reactivated its claim over the Esequibo in recent years after the discovery of offshore oil and gas. In Sunday's referendum, Venezuelan voters rejected the jurisdiction of the International Court of Justice over their country's territorial dispute with Guyana and supported the creation of a new Venezuelan state in the potentially oil-rich Esequibo region. Brazil did not ask Venezuela to cancel the vote, but President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva's government is expected to criticize the stepped up Venezuelan campaign for the Esequibo. An international tribunal in Paris in 1899 settled the issue, but Venezuela says the ruling was rigged.

RIO DE JANEIRO, May 9 (Reuters) - The world' largest economies grouped in the G20 will hold their annual heads of state or government summit next year in Rio de Janeiro, state Governor Claudio Castro said. Brazil will take over the rotating presidency of the G20 from India on Dec. 1. It will be the largest event in Rio since the city hosted the Olympic Games in 2016 and the World Cup soccer final in 2014. The G20 represents around 85% of the global GDP, over 75% of global trade and about two-thirds of the world's population. The G20 was started two decades ago to include important emerging economies in discussions that had been confined to the Group of Seven industrialized economies.

However, the judge upheld the imposition of a daily fine of one million reais ($200,553) on the company for failing to provide the requested data. The federal police requested the suspension order after Telegram failed to comply with a previous court decision to handover data about two neo-Nazi groups on the app accused of inciting violence in schools. Telegram brands itself as a messaging app focused on speed and privacy and says its special secret chats use end-to-end encryption not stored on its servers. RIO DE JANEIRO, April 14 (Reuters) - Brazilian Defense Minister Jose Mucio said late Thursday that countries such as Sweden and Colombia had expressed interest in buying Embraer's (EMBR3.SA) KC-390 military cargo aircraft. But the concept of the KC-390 is very big with all the countries," he told Reuters. "Sweden itself has talked about the KC-390, others have also talked about it and it's a big success. Sweden was expected to give an answer and Colombia is also interested in making an acquisition," he added. Earlier this week, Reuters reported, citing sources, that Austria was looking to advance in talks with Embraer on purchasing four or five KC-390 aircraft.
